Program Description:  

This training will address the use of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as a therapeutic intervention with individuals and the theory driving it forward in the field. Examples of how ACT activities can be used to enhance and facilitate successful achievement of treatment goals will be presented. Participants should be prepared to engage in active, hands-on learning and group discussion. 

Goals: 

  • Increase knowledge and application of the core concepts of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and its theoretical base 

  • Increase exposure to research that supports the effectiveness of ACT 

Objectives: 

  • Identify populations ACT works best with  

  • Identify at least three ACT interventions and discuss how they can be used  

  • Identify limitations of applying ACT 

 

Workshop Outline: 

ACT history and development (8:45-9:45)

Theoretical integration: the foundations of ACT and Psychological Flexibility (9:45-11)

Break for 15 minutes (11-11:15)

Interventions and mindfulness (11:15-12:45)

Limitations and wrap up discussion (12:45-1:00)

*All training content is co-facilitated.
