Course Description:
This training serves as an introduction to positive discipline methods. The primary focus will be teaching ways of assisting parents and families in developing positive discipline techniques through use of experiential activities, which are designed to build family relationships, develop social skills, and foster an atmosphere of encouragement from which the child can flourish in becoming an integral and respected member of the family and a contributing member of their community.
Goals:
· Gain knowledge of experiential activities to foster positive discipline methods
· Inspire families to Increase family communication
· Learn methods to encourage children to grow from problematic behaviors
· Assist parents/guardians in identifying their own personality style and its impact on their child’s behaviors
Objectives:
· Identify at least three experiential activities geared toward fostering positive discipline methods
· Identify the purpose of positive discipline methods
· Identify the purpose of exploring personality styles with parents/guardians to understand how each style impacts child behaviors
Outline:
1. What is Positive Discipline (9-9:30)
2. Explore common parental goals (9:30-11:30; 15-minute break at 11:15)
3. Understanding the brain (11:30-12)
4. Explore discipline methods (12-12:15)
5. Learn how to help families hold family meetings (12:15-12:30)
6. Learn mistaken goals (12:30-12:50)
7. Learn to help parents identify their own personality styles (12:50-1:15)
