Training Description:

This live, virtual session will review professional responsibilities and mandates for clinical supervisors, who likely experience multiple ethical challenges in their daily work.  We will unpack dual relationships, competency, due process in evaluation, informed consent, types of supervisor liability, privileged communication, consultation, and others.  We’ll also explore regulatory issues including Ohio laws governing the practice of clinical supervision, professional standards and credentialing processes, and related institutional or agency procedures.

Goals:

  • Integrate core values with professional ethical standards
  • Navigate legal and ethical frameworks in behavioral health from a supervisory perspective
  • Distinguish and address ethical dilemmas in practice as a supervisor

Objectives:

  1. Using at least one Code of Ethics from a professional association, describe how Core Values inform the identification of specific Standards of Ethical Practice 
  2. Identify Ethical Practice coverage in Ohio Revised Code, Ohio Administrative Code and the Code of Federal Regulation
  3. Be able to evaluate what situations may constitute full ethical dilemmas (in contrast to situations that may be uncomfortable)
  4. Participants will develop an increased understanding of the professional, legal, and ethical standards of practice in behavioral health
  5. Participants will learn common protocols for managing ethical issues including use of supervisor for consultation and oversight  
  6. Participants will have an increased ability to recognize ethical issues and to apply ethical decision-making protocols
