Program Description:

This training will explore ADHD using a biopsychosocial perspective. Skills related to accurate diagnosis and brief overview of assessment practices for both children and adults will be explored. Program will explore how ADHD impacts child and adult functioning within different domains including academically, socially, and psychologically.  Current best practices in the treatment of ADHD will be addressed.

Goals:

·        Understand current theory of ADHD: What is it?

·        Identify current DSM criteria for diagnosis of ADHD

·        Become familiar with current assessment practices for children and adults

·        Identify best practices in treatment of ADHD

Objectives:

·        Differentiate ADHD from other disorders

·        Explain current theory of ADHD from biopsychosocial and neurobiological perspective

·        Identify components of an ADHD assessment and evaluate impacts of ADHD on academic, home, and social functioning

·        Based on hypothetical case, create treatment plan and design interventions for child and family.

·        Implement training activities (e.g., social skills and parent training for children/adolescents; study skills and time management skills for adults) to support treatment goals.

8:45-9:15 Definition of ADHD

9:15-9:45 Lifespan and diversity perspectives

9:45-10:15 Current underlying theories of etiology and impact on functioning

10:15-11:00 Best practices in the assessment and diagnosis of ADHD

11:00-11:15 BREAK

11:15-12:45 Interventions for youth and adults

12:45-1 Wrap up
