Program Description:

Though many of the people who present for treatment have experienced some form of trauma, clinicians often struggle to understand when to diagnosis a trauma disorder and how to incorporate an understanding of trauma into their conceptualization of treatment. In this training, participants will learn about the impact of trauma, how to recognize and diagnose trauma disorders, and will increase confidence in their ability to effectively treat trauma symptoms and disorders.

Goals:

-Understand the role of trauma in development, neurobiological underpinnings, and how to incorporate this knowledge into case conceptualization

-Improve identification and diagnosis of trauma and stressor disorders

-Identify and implement the common elements of most evidence-based trauma treatments that lead to positive outcomes

Objectives: 

-Differentiate between post-traumatic stress disorder, adjustment disorder, and trauma symptoms as part of other diagnoses

-Conceptualize cases through understanding impact of trauma

-Develop appropriate trauma treatment and tailor to presenting diagnosis and symptoms

10:30-12:15 Evidence-Based Treatment Approaches & Application 

-Top 5 Evidence-Based Treatments

-Evidence-Informed Intervention: Active Ingredients Approach to Trauma Treatment

12:15-1 Break

1-2:15 Diagnosis of Trauma & Stressor-Related Disorders

-Prevalence rates and introduction to the trauma spectrum

-Reactive Attachment Disorder vs Disinhibited Social Engagement Disorder

-Acute stress vs adjustment disorder vs PTSD

-Special note on Complex PTSD vs Borderline Personality Disorder and Bipolar Disorder

-Prolonged Grief Disorder

-Differential diagnosis (AOD, Personality Disorders, GAD, Psychosis, etc.)

-Formal Standardized Assessment measures

3:15-3:50 Further Application and integration of assessment, conceptualization, and treatment
